1) I found that the celery stuck to the bottom of my saucepan too much, so I stirred in half a chopped garlic clove and substituted 2 cups pureed tomatoes for 1 cup broth the first time around – both times worked fine though!

4) I prefer to chop my celery before adding it to the soup, but you can leave it whole.
